Bulk carrier

Bulk carrier is a type of ship specially designed to transport loose, unpackaged cargoes such as: grain, coal, ore, crude oil, cement, etc.

Bulk carriers have wide hulls, deep holds and can hold large amounts of cargo. The holds are often divided into compartments for easy loading and unloading.

Bulk carriers come in many types, classified based on size, capacity, and type of cargo carried. Common types of bulk carriers include:

• Handysize bulk carrier: has a capacity of 25,000 to 50,000 DWT.
• Medium bulk carrier (Panamax bulk carrier): has a capacity of 50,000 to 100,000 DWT.
• Large bulk carrier (Capesize bulk carrier): has a capacity of 100,000 to 200,000 DWT.
• Very Large Ore Carrier (VLOC): has a capacity of over 200,000 DWT.

Bulk carriers are an important part of the world's maritime transport system. They help move large quantities of goods from one place to another efficiently and cost-effectively.

Here are some advantages of bulk carriers:

• Cost effective.
• Flexible, can transport many different types of goods.

However, bulk carriers also have some disadvantages:

• May cause environmental pollution.
• Difficulty in loading and unloading goods.
