COSCO Shipping and Sepetiba Tecon Sign 10-Year Agreement: Elevating the Brazil-China Trade Route

On April 17, at the WTC Events Center in São Paulo, COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers (South America branch) and Sepetiba Tecon officially signed a commercial contract spanning 10 years. This event not only opens a new chapter in the partnership between the terminal operator and the shipping line but also solidifies the strategic foundation for expanding transport services along the Brazil-China route, one of the most vital trade corridors globally.

The Elevation of a Partnership

The collaboration between the two entities was initially established through empty container storage and handling operations. Since then, the relationship has continuously evolved, expanding its scope to include the handling of general cargo, project cargo, electric vehicle logistics, and, most recently, full container load (FCL) shipping.

Moving forward, the two parties are planning to boost the export of wood pulp and grains through the BRICS Express Service utilizing bulk and breakbulk shipping methods.

An Exclusive Position in the Brazilian Market

A notable highlight of this agreement is that Sepetiba Tecon is currently the only terminal in Brazil authorized by COSCO Shipping Specialized to handle export container shipments destined for China. This reaffirms the port's irreplaceable strategic position within the carrier's logistics supply chain.

Assessing the significance of this milestone, Rafael Vitale, Director of Sepetiba Tecon, shared: "China has long been one of Brazil’s main trading partners, and this relationship is becoming increasingly strategic. In this context, the signing of this contract represents not only a significant step forward in commercial relations between the terminal and COSCO, but also a direct impact on the generation of new business and the expansion of service offerings to the market."

On the partner's side, Shan Guoyang, President of COSCO Shipping Specialized (South America), noted that the agreement is a clear testament to the mutual trust built over the years and the strategic alignment between the two organizations.

"Sepetiba Tecon has demonstrated operational excellence and technical capability to meet the demands of our multipurpose operations, which has been fundamental to the growth of our activities in Brazil." Shan Guoyang emphasized.

Long-Term Vision and Investment Commitment

The newly signed commercial contract is valid for 10 years and includes clauses that allow for renewal, thereby affirming the long-term commitment between both parties.

Concluding the signing event, Rafael Vitale once again affirmed the terminal's developmental direction: "We remain committed to investing, evolving, and continuously expanding this partnership, which already shows concrete results and is expected to generate even more value for Brazilian foreign trade."
