COSCO electric container ship


COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry (Yangzhou) started construction of the second 700 TEU electric container ship (N998) owned by COSCO SHIPPING Development on May 8.

The 700 TEU Electric Cargo Container Ship is a key initiative of COSCO SHIPPING Development to advance carbon neutrality efforts towards green zero-carbon shipping demonstration.

The ship was built with a tonnage of 10,000 DWT with a length of 119.8m, a a moulded beam of 23.6m, a designed draught of 5.5m, two 900kW main propulsion engines, which will be operated exclusively on the river/coastal route.

The ship is expected to cut about 32 tons of carbon emissions every 24 hours compared to traditional gasoline ships of the same size.

The ship also features an intelligent ship platform system and an advanced situational awareness system, which is expected to enhance the ship's intelligence and safety.
