Port of Houston reports record container volumes in July

The Port of Houston posted a record July 2023 container volume with a total volumes of 344,163 TEUs, up 5% from July 2022. Additionally, 2,202,538 TEUs were handled at the Port of Houston's terminals in the first 7 months of the year, a slight decrease of 1% compared to the same period in 2022.

In July, loaded import volumes at the Port of Houston were 166,151 TEUs, up 4% from July last year, while loaded export volumes increased 15% to 117,652 TEUs. The loaded export volumes this year increased by 12% compared to last year, mainly due to strong demand for resin.

Overall, the Port of Houston reported a balanced container flow, with 51% of imports and 49% of exports this year.

Total tonnage through all ports at the Port of Houston fell 3% in July to 29,850,836 tons. Steel fell 5% in July 2023 compared to the same month last year, totaling 451,193 tons. However, the number of imported cars has increased by 56% this year compared to the same period in 2022.
