Despite the fact that the Port of Los Angeles (POLA) decreased throughput by 8% in October from the previous month, which is a monthly record, the port has once again surpassed the 900,000 TEU milestone, and reached output volume of 902,644 TEU.

This represents 22% growth in overall cargo throughput to date, compared with the first 10 months of 2020. Year-to-date, the busiest US port has completed more than 9,079,500 TEU.

Meanwhile, import volume in October reached 467,287 TEU, down 8% year-on-year, and export volume also fell 32% year-on-year to 98,251 TEU. However, empty container throughput reached 337,106 TEU, a slight increase of 2% year-on-year.

Port of Los Angeles CEO Gene Seroka said: “Amid the array of challenges facing the supply chain, we continue to deliver more cargo than ever", that the port has seen a marked improvement of fluidity on its marine terminals, which allows more vessels to be processed, thanks to the current clearing of imports and empties docks.
