Quy Nhon Port launches container shipping service to Northeast Asia

Mr. Ho Lien Nam - Sales Manager at Quy Nhon Port Joint Stock Company - said that in the recent time to expand production and business, Quy Nhon port has promoted to open many new shipping service routes; in particular, there is the opening of a direct service route from Quy Nhon port to Northeast Asia in order to connect sources of goods in the Central Highlands region to export to countries such as China, Korea, Japan...

According to Mr. Nam's assessment, the volume of goods in Southeast Asia and Northeast Asia is very developed, so the opening of direct service from Quy Nhon port to these areas is very potential. Goods exported from Quy Nhon are mainly cassava starch and wood pellets. These items account for 60% of export volume of Quy Nhon port.

However, some high-value items, such as frozen fruit, have not been directly available for long-term exploitation. For example, previously, owners who wanted to export this item often had to go through Singapore, then have a route back to Northeast Asia. This leads to extended transportation time, which reduces the value of specific export items such as fruits. This also increases shipping costs.

"Therefore, if exploiting well the direct service route from Quy Nhon to Northeast Asia, it will solve the above shortcomings, and open up new ways to exploit the market for the port," Mr. Nam said. 

At the beginning of each month, this service will transport about 1,400 containers, equivalent to about 17,000-19,000 tons of goods. It is expected that the market attracting period of ship owners will make once a week. If the market is favorable, the middle of August will increase to 2 sailings per week. 

According to the evaluation of the leader of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines), this is a very important event, opening a new development stage for the Central region - Central Highlands in general and Binh Dinh province in particular. facilitating the trade of goods to markets in North Asia by reducing time and reducing transportation costs, increasing the competitiveness of goods compared to other countries in the region. The opening of a sea shipping route from Quy Nhon directly to North Asia is a very necessary demand and brings many benefits to import-export enterprises. 

Quy Nhon Port was officially received by Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Vinalines) from June 2019 after the process of negotiating the acquisition of shares with Hop Thanh Mineral Joint Stock Company under the conclusion of the Government Inspectorate, and direction of competent authorities. 

After being converted back to Vinalines, Quy Nhon port continued to maintain a good growth thanks to the growth of petrol and oil supply service, joint venture to exploit yards, vehicles and equipment for specialized container loading and unloading to develop port logistics system.

In the first quarter of 2020, the volume of goods handled through Quy Nhon port reached more than 2.4 million tons, up 14% over the same period of 2019. The first quarter of 2020 revenue of Quy Nhon port reached 212 billion VND, an increase of 18% compared to the same period in 2019.
