China's top container ports achieve nearly 150 million TEU throughput in H1 2023

In the first six months of the year, the total container throughput of China's major ports increased by 4.8% year-on-year to approximately 150 million TEUs.

Meanwhile, the total cargo volume of Chinese ports was about 8.1 billion tons in the first half of 2023, down 8% year-on-year.

The Port of Shanghai has maintained its dominance, being China's busiest container port with 23.7 million TEUs. Ningbo & Zhoushan port is the second largest container port in China with 17.7 million TEU, and in third place, is Qingdao port with 14 million TEU.

It is important to note that the largest percentage growth was recorded at the ports of Yinkou, Dalian and Lianyungang. Yinkou reported a year-on-year container growth of 26.8%, Dalian saw a 20.8% increase in containers, and Lianyungang saw a 15.4% increase in TEU throughput.

Shenzhen, on the other hand, was the only port to report a year-on-year decline, with a throughput of 13.5 million TEUs, equivalent to a 6% drop.
