COSCO Shipping is planning a regular service calling at La Spezia Port with 20,000 TEU ships. The upcoming arrival of the COSCO Shipping Aries marks the first port call of such a large container ship from a Chinese vessel in an Italian port.

Starting from March, COSCO 20,000 TEU container ships will be permanently present at the Port of La Spezia. A recent announcement by COSCO Shippinging revealed plans to incorporate these four vessels into its Asia to Mediterranean (AEM1) service.

Each ship has an impressive length of about 400 meters. This strategic decision reflects the evolving landscape of maritime transport as the industry adapts to new standards and requirements, including the need to move around Africa.

As a result, two new independent services will be introduced into the Mediterranean, supporting the deployment of larger capacity container ships.

"We are proud and ready to welcome the COSCO SHIPPING Aries, the first in a series of ultra-large container vessels deployed in the AEM1 (MED1) service operated by the Chinese carrier within the Ocean Alliance. Our terminal has already demonstrated its ability to handle operationally this type of container ship, thus reaffirming our commitment to meeting every need and delivering the service excellence that our customers expect,” said Matteo Ferrando, key account manager at Contship Italia.
