COSCO SHIPPING Holdings Expands Asia-Pacific Service Network

Source: COSCO SHIPPING
The Chinese shipping conglomerate is accelerating its expansion in the Asia-Pacific region by leveraging operational synergies between COSCO SHIPPING Lines and OOCL. The coordinated effort marks a comprehensive integration of regional short-sea services, inland intermodal networks, transshipment capabilities at pivotal hubs, and digital customer solutions.
The newly deployed and enhanced services cover strategic corridors linking South China and Hainan with Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent, providing beneficial cargo owners (BCOs) and forwarders with broader routing options while bolstering connectivity between manufacturing clusters, raw material sourcing hubs, and major consumption markets.
The scale of operations underlines the strategic weight of intra-regional trades within the group's overall portfolio. According to COSCO SHIPPING Holdings' 2026 interim financial report, intra-Asia routes (including Australasia) moved approximately 4.74 million TEU in the first half of the year - up 5.34% year-over-year and accounting for roughly one-third of the group’s total container liftings.
COSCO and OOCL Deepen Regional Connectivity
Through COSCO SHIPPING Lines and OOCL, the group continues to launch tailored loops connecting South China and Hainan directly to Southeast Asian and Indian Subcontinent markets. These offerings are structured around core trade corridors, adding direct port calls and providing enhanced schedule integrity.
On September 21, OOCL unveiled its new China–Cambodia–Thailand Service 4 (CCT4), scheduled to launch its maiden voyage on October 23, 2026. The pro-forma port rotation is:
Nansha – Shekou – Sihanoukville – Songkhla – Nansha

Source: OOCL
CCT4 establishes a direct link connecting two key South China export gateways with Sihanoukville in Cambodia and Songkhla in southern Thailand. According to OOCL, the deployment injects dedicated capacity to support shifting supply chain dynamics, enhances operating flexibility, and improves transit reliability between South China, Cambodia, and Thailand.
Strengthening the South China, Hainan, and Thailand Corridor
Another focal point of network expansion is the dedicated triangle connecting Nansha, Laem Chabang, and Yangpu:
● COSCO SHIPPING Lines operates a dedicated Nansha – Laem Chabang – Yangpu – Nansha service, offering an expedited 5-day transit time on the Nansha-to-Laem Chabang export leg.
● OOCL complemented this coverage with the launch of its CHL7 service on September 29, 2026, mirroring the Nansha – Laem Chabang – Yangpu – Nansha rotation to secure direct, high-frequency connectivity between South China and Thailand.
Within this rotation, each port serves a distinct strategic purpose:
● Nansha: Functions as the primary export gateway for the Pearl River Delta’s manufacturing hinterland.
● Yangpu: Serves as the deepwater hub facilitating trade through Hainan’s expanding Free Trade Port and logistics zones.
● Laem Chabang: Operates as Thailand’s premier container gateway handling inbound manufacturing inputs and finished consumer goods.

Bridging Southeast Asia and the Indian Subcontinent
The expanded service matrix also fortifies connections between Southeast Asian manufacturing bases and the Indian Subcontinent.
OOCL’s Southeast Asia – Indian Subcontinent Service 2 (SIS2), inaugurated on June 4, 2026, deploys the following rotation:
Qinzhou – Yangpu – Hai Phong – Singapore – Mundra – Singapore – Hong Kong – Qinzhou
According to OOCL, the SIS2 loop provides direct, reliable connections between Hai Phong in Northern Vietnam and Mundra on the West Coast of India, while simultaneously upgrading high-density sea legs linking China, Vietnam, and Singapore.
By connecting key marine terminals across the Beibu Gulf, Hainan, Northern Vietnam, Singapore, and Western India, the service is engineered to cater to diversified supply chains with multi-tiered sourcing, production, and distribution models across the region.
Expanding Sea-Rail Corridors via Qinzhou
The group’s regional maritime network connects directly to China’s interior markets via Qinzhou, a pivotal rail-sea multimodal hub along the New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor.
COSCO SHIPPING Holdings currently runs 17 liner routes via Qinzhou, comprising 8 international loops and 9 domestic coastal services. Connected with extensive rail and trucking networks, these maritime services link coastal gateways seamlessly with central and western China.
This intermodal architecture supports balanced, two-way freight flows - moving outbound Chinese industrial and consumer goods to global markets while funneling agricultural products and industrial commodities from Southeast Asia straight into China’s inland provinces.
AI-Driven Supply Chain Orchestration
Alongside physical fleet and network deployment, COSCO SHIPPING Holdings is accelerating the adoption of digital technologies across its global footprint.
The carrier confirmed that AI-driven logistics solutions have now been deployed across 13 countries, with comprehensive implementations underway in Australia, New Zealand, and throughout Southeast Asia. Notably, the group’s 2026 interim report highlighted an in-house AI-powered supply chain virtual assistant engineered to automate customer workflows end-to-end - spanning instant spot quotations, automated booking validation, cargo tracking, and billing settlement.
For shippers and beneficial cargo owners, the deeper operational integration between COSCO SHIPPING Lines and OOCL delivers superior routing versatility, tighter regional hub connectivity, and enhanced supply chain resilience across today's multifaceted Asian trade corridors.
