Fleet Greening Strategy: Nantong Cosco and Norsepower Strengthen Global Cooperation on Rotor Sail Technology

Leading enterprises from China and Norway are deepening their strategic partnership to scale up the production and global deployment of rotor sail technology.
Nantong Cosco Shipping Heavy Industry Equipment (CHIC) - a key marine equipment manufacturing unit under the COSCO Shipping Group - has solidified its strategic partnership with Norsepower, the world's leading provider of wind-assisted propulsion solutions. This move aims to accelerate the market penetration of rotor sail technology.
The two parties have officially signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement, building upon their initial Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The new agreement establishes a long-term cooperation framework covering all operational stages: manufacturing, global sales, on-site installation, after-sales service, and joint technical development for Norsepower Rotor Sails systems.
A Catalyst for Maritime Decarbonization
Norsepower representatives stated that this enhanced collaboration is viewed as a proactive and forward-looking response to soaring industry demand, perfectly aligning with the broader green shipping transition.
Under this strategic pact, the two partners will actively explore potential market project opportunities and drive the large-scale adoption of wind propulsion technology across commercial fleets worldwide. The agreement also outlines a clear cooperation roadmap and a phased development plan, laying a solid foundation for the smooth execution of future projects.
Assessing the potential of this partnership, the General Manager of CHIC shared: "Norsepower possesses mature rotor sail technology and a leading market position, while CHIC has deep accumulation and resource advantages in ship equipment manufacturing. Our complementary strengths give us confidence that this cooperation will provide more efficient and reliable wind propulsion solutions for the global shipping industry, supporting its decarbonization process."
Mr. Heikki Pöntynen, CEO of Norsepower, also emphasized the motivations and expectations driving the deal: "Shipowners are looking for solutions that can genuinely reduce fuel consumption and emissions, and the market enthusiasm for wind propulsion technology continues to rise. For us, expanding high-quality production capacity is key to keeping up with demand. Through the in-depth cooperation with CHIC, the scaled production of Norsepower Rotor Sails has gained more solid support, taking a step forward in the global promotion and application of this technology in the fleet."
Moving forward, Norsepower and CHIC will continue to coordinate closely to promote the widespread application and popularization of wind propulsion technology, making practical contributions to the maritime industry's green and low-carbon transition.
