MSC, CMA CGM, Evergreen and ZIM to have strongest growth in 2022
After increasing its fleet capacity by 411,000 TEUs (+10.7%) in 2021, MSC was once again the biggest expansion among major shipping lines last year, adding 321,500 TEUs (+ 7.5%), according to Alphaliner.

Although spot freight rates on major routes from China have been in a year-long decline, having fallen from their peak in early 2022 to close to current pre-pandemic levels, the past year has shown to be an impressive one. The year has been particularly lucrative for ocean freight: The high contract rates and a strong market of Transatlantic have helped carriers maintain profitability.
Many carriers have been working to expand their fleets to take full advantage of the unusually strong market.
However, Alphaliner's year-to-date comparison of the top 12 container shipping lines shows a big difference between the ‘gainers’ and ‘losers’.
