Schedule reliability on Asia-Europe trade lanes of container carrier alliances significantly improved

To gauge which of the three alliances had the fastest post-pandemic recovery in schedule reliability, Sea-Intelligence took their lowest recorded schedule reliability during the pandemic as month "0" and then looked at the change from that baseline in the months that followed.

This is shown in the figure below for the Asia-North Europe trade lane. In just the second month after dropping to its lowest point, 2M improved schedule reliability by 20 percentage points, while the improvements for the two other alliances, Ocean Alliance and THE Alliance, were both under 10 percentage points. By the seventh month, 2M had almost reached a 50 percentage point recovery, with the other two alliances lagging significantly behind. Ocean Alliance only reached 45 percentage points by the 17th month, while THE Alliance took 25 months to reach close to 50 percentage points. In short, 2M's schedule reliability recovery rate was far above the other two alliances.

In fact, on both Asia-Europe trade lanes, 2M has seen rapid improvements in schedule reliability after dropping to its lowest point during the pandemic, however, while they continued on this trajectory on the Asia-North Europe trade lane, their rate of recovery on the Asia-Mediterranean trade lane slowed down considerably.

On the other hand, Ocean Alliance, while having a relatively slower rate of improvement on the Asia-North Europe trade lane, has largely been consistent in schedule reliability improvements in the months after their lowest figure of the pandemic. THE Alliance has seen a relatively slower rate of recovery on the Asia-North Europe trade lane, picking up in recent months, while seeing the opposite trend on the Asia-Mediterranean trade lane.
