Port of Gothenburg Acquires Strategic Land: Poised to Trigger the Next Phase of Terminal Infrastructure Expansion

The Port of Gothenburg has recently completed the acquisition of a large-scale land parcel on the port's outskirts through an agreement signed with the real estate company Platzer. This move is designed to secure critical conditions for the next phase in the port's long-term infrastructure development strategy.

Strategic Acquisition: Creating Room for 210,000 sqm of Terminal Expansion

This strategic acquisition encompasses land, office facilities, and water areas, generating the potential to develop up to 210,000 square meters of new terminal yard space in the future.

The overarching agreement also includes the divestment of a logistics property located right at the port's gateway. Accordingly, the net cost of the transaction is the difference between the buying and selling components of the asset exchange.

Representing the leadership team, Göran Eriksson, CEO of the Port of Gothenburg, noted: This acquisition is a natural step in the port's continuous growth, situated directly adjacent to our existing terminal operations and surrounding logistics infrastructure.

Furthermore, the CEO clearly defined the transaction's role within the macro vision: This is part of a long-term development plan that the port has been implementing step-by-step over several decades.

Following the Westward Expansion Trajectory

This real estate transaction continues to follow the westward expansion trajectory - a direction that has characterized the port's physical development since the 1970s, when the Älvsborg RoRo terminal was established. That progression has been consistently maintained, most recently with the Arendal 2 project, which added 144,000 square meters of terminal area.

The newly acquired land boasts a prime location, situated immediately adjacent to the new Stena Line ferry terminal currently under construction, which is scheduled for completion in 2031.

The Gothenburg region has long been recognized as the premier logistics node in the Nordic countries. This acquisition is expected to further bolster the port's core capacity to support the establishment of industrial facilities and drive trade growth across the entire region.
