Port of Los Angeles Sets All-Time Monthly Cargo Record

July 2025 was the busiest month in the Port of Los Angeles' 117-year history, with throughput reaching 1,019,837 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs), an 8.5% increase compared to July 2024.
The surge was driven by retailers and manufacturers expediting shipments amid concerns about potential tariff increases later this year.
Port of Los Angeles Executive Director Gene Seroka noted that while terminals were flush with ships in July, cargo flowed without delay thanks to the dedication of longshore labor, terminal and rail operators, truck drivers, and other supply chain partners.
Dr. Zachary Rogers, Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management at Colorado State University and lead author of the Logistics Managers' Index, joined Seroka at the monthly press briefing to discuss the broader impacts of tariffs on transportation, warehousing, and inventory levels.
In July, loaded imports totaled 543,728 TEUs, an 8% increase compared to the previous year and a new monthly import record for the port. Loaded exports reached 121,507 TEUs, a 6% increase over 2024. The port also processed 354,602 empty containers, a 10% increase compared to last year.
From January through July 2025, the Port of Los Angeles has processed 5,975,649 TEUs, representing a 5% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
