COSCO SHIPPING Lines Launches WSA5 Service Connecting China and South America

On February 5 in Buenaventura, Colombia, COSCO SHIPPING Lines celebrated the maiden voyage of the WSA5 service to the Port of Buenaventura, Colombia, with various welcoming activities taking place at the SPRB terminal.

At the ceremony, the M.V. COSCO SHIPPING's Xin Hong Kong arrived with 707 TEU of cargo from China, including automobiles, photovoltaic panels, large-sized household appliances and small consumer goods, and brought good wishes for the Chinese New Year. These items will contribute to promoting economic and trade cooperation between China and Colombia, as well as with the South American region.

The ceremony was attended by Mr. Gao Jinbao, representative of the Office of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Colombia, and Ms. Ligia del Carmen Córdoba Martinez, Mayor of Buenaventura. In addition, nearly 200 representatives from local governments, industry associations and enterprises from both countries were also present. COSCO SHIPPING (South America) also participated in the event via online speech.

The launch of the WSA5 service marks a new stage in the trade between China and Colombia, with the fastest transit time from Colombia to Shanghai and Qingdao to date, further enhancing the development of bilateral trade. In addition, COSCO SHIPPING is also promoting its digitalized supply chain strategy, providing customers with intelligent and digital logistics solutions. These more accurate and efficient services will contribute to the continued growth of China-Colombia trade.

Ms. Córdoba expressed her gratitude to COSCO SHIPPING for launching the WSA5 service, and emphasized the great potential that the service brings to trade between China and Colombia. The route will help strengthen cooperation between ports, expand trade volume, and promote employment and local economic growth.

During the event, COSCO SHIPPING Lines and SPRB signed a port service agreement, exchanged souvenirs, and took a commemorative photo together.

WSA5 Service

The WSA5 service boasts efficient connectivity and extensive coverage. It will link China's major inland ports with many key ports along the west coast of South America, ensuring optimal logistics connectivity. Destinations include Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru's Chancay Port, meeting a variety of international freight transportation needs.
