Long Beach Port Handles 10.6% More Containers in June

The Port of Long Beach has reported handling 779,331 TEUs in June, representing a 10.6% increase compared with the same month last year. The result also marks the third-busiest June in the port's history.

Container Throughput Continues to Grow in the First Half of the Year

June's performance was primarily driven by steady import demand and a significant increase in empty container repositioning.

The breakdown is as follows:

●    Imports: 387,025 TEUs, up 11.0% year over year.

●    Empty containers: 305,860 TEUs, up 14.1%.

●    Exports: 86,446 TEUs, down 1.3%.

During the first six months of 2026, the Port of Long Beach handled a total of 4,829,578 TEUs, an increase of 1.7% compared with the same period in 2025.

The figures were announced by Toks Omishakin, Secretary of the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA), together with Dr. Noel Hacegaba, Chief Operating Officer of the Port of Long Beach. Port officials noted that first-half throughput has slightly surpassed the previous record, despite continued volatility in global trade.

US$3.3 Billion Investment to Deliver the 2050 Vision

Alongside sustained cargo growth, the Port of Long Beach continues to advance its long-term development strategy under the Vision 2050 program.

The initiative aims to increase the port's annual handling capacity to 20 million TEUs by 2050, while developing a modern, digitalized, and more sustainable port ecosystem.

To achieve this goal, the port plans to invest approximately US$3.3 billion over the next decade to upgrade infrastructure, expand terminal capacity, and accelerate digital transformation.

The investment program will focus on modernizing port facilities, deploying digital technologies to improve operational efficiency, and enhancing cargo visibility and supply chain transparency.

Strengthening Its Position as a Strategic U.S. Trade Gateway

Today, the Port of Long Beach handles approximately US$300 billion worth of cargo annually, reinforcing its role as one of the United States' most important trade gateways.

According to the port, cargo activities associated with Long Beach support approximately 2.7 million direct and indirect jobs across the United States, underscoring its critical role in both the national supply chain and international trade.
