Luka Koper Achieves Record Container Throughput and Exceptional Growth in 2025

Luka Koper Group, Slovenia’s premier port operator, has unveiled highly positive operational and financial results for the 2025 fiscal year. Despite broader global economic headwinds, the Group achieved robust growth across its strategic cargo segments.

Outstanding Financial Performance

The surge in container and automotive throughput, coupled with strong storage revenue, fueled an impressive financial trajectory for the Group:

●    Net Sales Revenue: Reached €380.3 million, surpassing the target by 13% and marking a 15% increase over 2024.

●    Operating Profit (EBIT): Skyrocketed by 44% to €96.3 million, exceeding the initial forecast by 74% (or €40.8 million).

●    Net Profit: Touched €81.5 million, a 35% year-on-year increase and 66% above the planned budget.

Operational Milestones of 2025

The operational landscape across Luka Koper’s terminals showed steady development, with a particularly significant breakthrough in the container segment:

●    Container Terminal: Recorded a 12% growth, setting a new record of 1,272,161 TEUs. This surge was driven by new business serving manufacturing supply chains in the hinterland markets, alongside a restructuring of maritime routes from the Far East and within the Mediterranean region.

●    Car and RO-RO Terminal: Handled 914,817 units. The 3% increase was primarily attributed to higher import volumes from Chinese manufacturers and strong export flows to Mediterranean countries.

●    Total Maritime Throughput: Reached 23,003,522 tonnes, maintaining stability compared to 2024. Notably, rail transport accounted for 51% of the modal split, despite operational constraints caused by ongoing railway network upgrades.

●    Passenger Terminal: Ghi nhận a record-breaking cruise season with 80 vessel calls. Total passenger traffic reached 123,928 (dipping only 1% compared to 2024). The port also officially inaugurated a state-of-the-art new Passenger Terminal in May.

Accelerating Investment and Infrastructure Development

In 2025, Luka Koper disbursed €132.9 million for investment projects, with €42.9 million specifically allocated to sustainability initiatives. The Group plans to accelerate its investment cycle in 2026 with a planned budget of €201 million.

Key ongoing projects include:

●    Continued construction of the new container berth and storage areas at the northern section of Pier I.

●    Development of a multi-story car park with a capacity for 11,700 vehicles.

●    Completion of an automated warehouse for steel coils and the finalization of Berth 12, dedicated to project cargo, later this year.

Reflecting on the year’s achievements, Nevenka Kržan, President of the Management Board, noted that the port operates on a resilient business model capable of navigating economic fluctuations. She also emphasized that these record results were achieved during an intensive investment cycle - a period that typically presents significant operational challenges.
