Maersk Adjusts Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on Asia – Southern Africa Trade from July 2026

Maersk has issued an advisory regarding the adjustment of its Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) applied to shipments transported from Asia to the Southern Africa region. The new regulation will officially come into effect on July 1, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

Geographical Scope of Application

This updated PSS tariff will apply to cargo moving along the following trade lanes:

●    Origin Region: China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

●    Destination Region: Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, Botswana, Comoros, Lesotho, Malawi, Eswatini, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

Details of the Revised Tariff

Under the modified fee structure, Maersk has established specific PSS rates for dry containers as follows:

●    $1,800 per 20-foot dry container.

●    $2,000 per 40-foot dry container.

Regulations on Bookings and Price Calculation Date (PCD)

Maersk specifically notes that this surcharge applies only to non-spot bookings and is determined based on the Price Calculation Date (PCD).

The rules for determining the PCD are clearly categorized as follows:

●    For Non-FMC trades: The PCD is defined as the estimated schedule departure date (ETD) of the first ocean leg at the time of booking confirmation.

●    For FMC-regulated trades: The PCD is calculated based on the actual gate-in date of the last container.

Additionally, carrier representatives added that this surcharge will be collected based on the freight payment terms applicable to each specific shipment.
