MSC Restores Transpacific Pearl Service on the Asia–North America Trade Lane

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has decided to restore its Transpacific Pearl service following encouraging signs of cargo demand recovery on the Asia–North America trade route.
The move highlights carriers’ ongoing efforts to adjust network capacity in response to evolving market conditions while capitalizing on improving demand across one of the world’s most important container shipping corridors.
Transpacific Pearl Returns After Nearly One Year of Suspension
MSC suspended the Transpacific Pearl service in mid-2025 as the transpacific container shipping market faced significant supply-and-demand volatility.
Under the current plan, the service will be reintroduced this month, marking MSC’s return to the transpacific corridor through the addition of extra shipping capacity between Asia and the U.S. West Coast.
Deploying Vessels with an Average Capacity of 6,200 TEUs
MSC stated that the Transpacific Pearl service will be operated using container vessels with an average capacity of approximately 6,200 TEUs.
The deployment of mid-sized vessels is considered well suited to current market demand while providing the carrier with greater flexibility to adjust capacity in line with changing cargo volumes.
Direct Connection Between Major Chinese Export Hubs and the U.S. West Coast
According to the planned schedule, the Transpacific Pearl service will provide direct connections between key Chinese export gateways and the U.S. market.
The port rotation will be as follows:
● Yantian (Shenzhen)
● Xiamen
● Long Beach (United States)
● Yantian (Shenzhen)
This service structure is designed to shorten transit times while enhancing direct connectivity between Southern China’s major manufacturing centers and the U.S. West Coast.
Positive Signals from the Transpacific Market
MSC’s decision to reinstate the Transpacific Pearl service reflects improving cargo demand on the Asia–North America trade lane following a period of market weakness.
The move also underscores how container carriers continue to fine-tune their service networks and vessel deployment strategies to adapt to changing market dynamics.
As importers and exporters increase their shipping requirements on transpacific routes, the additional capacity is expected to enhance market responsiveness and provide shippers with more service options across the Asia–North America trade corridor.
