MSC Restructures Intra-Far East Service Network

According to Alphaliner, MSC is rolling out a restructuring plan for its intra-Asia service network within the Far East by blanking the Bayan Ko service and adjusting a number of its existing loops. This move aims to enhance operational efficiency while maintaining reliable connectivity across key ports in East Asia and Southeast Asia.
Discontinuing the Bayan Ko Service, Adjusting the Regional Connectivity Network
Specifically, MSC will officially discontinue the Bayan Ko service—a loop connecting the Pearl River Delta with Vietnam and the Philippines. Instead, the carrier will reallocate its transport capacity by adjusting the port rotations of the remaining services within the network.
The updated service loops include:
● Saola Service (Deploying 4 vessels x 2,500 TEU): Shanghai – Ningbo – Hai Phong – Ho Chi Minh City – Da Nang – Manila – Davao – Shanghai.
● Firehorse Service (Deploying 4 vessels x 2,500 TEU): Shanghai – Ningbo – Shenzhen (Shekou) – Singapore – Surabaya – Semarang – Singapore – Shanghai.
● Pertiwi Service (Deploying 4 vessels x 4,500 TEU): Dalian – Tianjin – Qingdao – Shenzhen (Shekou) – Singapore – Jakarta – Panjang – Jakarta – Singapore – Nansha – Hong Kong – Kaohsiung – Busan – Dalian.
● Thai Service (Deploying 1 vessel x 2,800 TEU): Singapore – Laem Chabang – Singapore.
● Bungaraya Service: Shanghai – Ningbo – Nansha – Port Kelang – Penang – Kuala Tanjung – Singapore – Shanghai.
● Malacca Express Service: Singapore – Belawan – Singapore.
● Sambar Service (Deploying 4 vessels x 4,500 TEU): Dalian – Inchon – Tianjin – Qingdao – Xiamen – Dong Nai – Laem Chabang – Singapore – Penang – Pasir Gudang – Tanjung Pelepas – Singapore – Dong Nai – Busan – Dalian.
A Strategic Push Toward Regional Operational Optimization
Assessing this round of adjustments, Alphaliner noted that MSC’s goal is to streamline regional operational efficiency while safeguarding coverage across key markets in China, Southeast Asia, and the Philippines.
Alphaliner observed: These changes are designed to optimize MSC's regional operations while maintaining connectivity at key ports in China, Southeast Asia, and the Philippines.
This network restructuring underscores that MSC is continuously reviewing and fine-tuning its intra-Asia loops to adapt to shifting market demand, maximize fleet utilization, and optimize service capacity along the region's core trade lanes.
