Airports Council International (ACI) World has officially released its 2025 ranking of the world’s busiest airports, offering a clear picture of the operational landscape of industry-leading aviation hubs across four categories: total passengers, international passengers, cargo volume, and aircraft movements.

These hubs serve as strategic anchors within the global air transport system, ensuring seamless connectivity and facilitating the efficient movement of people and goods worldwide.

In terms of passenger traffic and flight operations, Atlanta continues to hold the number one spot for total passengers, while Chicago O’Hare tops the global chart for aircraft movements.

Asia Secures Its Lead While Trans-Pacific Routes Surge

Delving into the air freight picture, the ranking reaffirms Hong Kong's absolute dominance as the world's premier air logistics hub. Closely following in second place is Shanghai (Pudong).

The most notable development at the top of the chart is the strong ascent of Anchorage, securing the third position. This achievement stems from the hub maximizing its strategic geographical advantage situated directly along the vital trans-Pacific trade lanes.

North American Volatility Driven by the E-commerce Boom

The 2025 data also exposes a profound divergence among North American hubs. Centers like Louisville and Miami recorded incredibly impressive double-digit growth rates. The primary catalyst for this breakthrough is the explosive demand in e-commerce and express delivery services.

Conversely, the Memphis hub witnessed a significant decline, clearly reflecting a shift in volume among integrated carriers.
