1. Asia - Northern America route
Ocean freight rates from Asia to the West Coast of North America in week 1/2025 increased sharply by 24.41% compared to the previous week, to USD 5,672/FEU; this price increased by 37.30% compared to the previous month, according to Xeneta data.
Shipping lines have applied the Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) since January 2025.
Shipping lines have implemented many blanked sailings, limiting supply to a moderate level in December 2024, with 92% of available capacity. In January 2025, the expected capacity is 97%. Additional blanked sailings are likely to be announced in January and February due to the impact of the Lunar New Year and network changes on the transpacific trade.
There are currently no significant equipment quality (EQ) issues at Asian ports.
ILA negotiations and tariff actions remain the main pressures on rates and capacity on the trade.
