OOCL Reports Nearly 20% Revenue Growth in Q2 2026, Driven by Strong Asia–U.S. Trade

Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has announced its financial and operating results for the second quarter of 2026, reporting solid growth in both revenue and container volumes as demand improved across most of its major trade lanes, particularly the Asia–U.S. route.

Revenue Climbs Nearly 20% as Volume Exceeds 2.1 Million TEUs

In the second quarter of 2026, OOCL generated US$2.54 billion in container shipping revenue, representing a 19.8% increase compared with the same period last year.

Container liftings reached 2.14 million TEUs, up 8.8% year over year, while loadable capacity increased by 6.3%. Supported by stronger demand, the load factor improved by 1.9 percentage points, and average revenue per TEU rose 10.1% compared with the second quarter of 2025.

Asia–U.S. Trade Lane Remains the Primary Growth Driver

The Asia–U.S. (Trans-Pacific) trade continued to be OOCL's strongest-performing market during the quarter.

Container volumes on the route reached 608,979 TEUs, an increase of 21.5% year over year, while revenue surged 29.3% to US$973.7 million.

The strong performance reflects continued robust trans-Pacific shipping demand as many importers accelerated shipments ahead of anticipated changes to U.S. trade and tariff policies.

Asia–Europe Trade Continues Its Upward Momentum

On the Asia–Europe trade lane, OOCL carried 386,513 TEUs, up 6.9% from the same period last year.

Revenue from the route reached US$520.9 million, representing a 17.6% increase, indicating that shipping demand remained resilient despite ongoing volatility in the global logistics market.

Trans-Atlantic Trade Faces Freight Rate Pressure

Business performance on the Trans-Atlantic trade lane remained generally stable.

Container volumes increased 1.8%, but revenue declined 1.3% to US$191.5 million, reflecting continued pressure on freight rates in the market.

Intra-Asia and Australasia Continue to Deliver Growth

In the Intra-Asia & Australasia region, OOCL transported 989,215 TEUs, an increase of 3.9% compared with the second quarter of 2025.

Revenue on the trade lane reached US$850.8 million, up 16.8%, making it another significant contributor to the carrier's overall quarterly performance.

First-Half Performance Remains Positive

For the first six months of 2026, OOCL reported US$4.68 billion in container shipping revenue, an increase of 5.5% year over year.

Total container liftings reached 4.13 million TEUs, up 5.2%, while loadable capacity increased by 5.3%.

However, the load factor edged down by 0.1 percentage point, and average revenue per TEU increased by only 0.2% compared with the same period in 2025.

OOCL also noted that the above figures are based on the company's internal management accounts and have not been audited or reviewed by independent auditors.
