CMA CGM Introduces Peak Season Surcharge on Multiple Far East Trade Lanes

CMA CGM has announced a new Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for selected shipping services connecting the Far East with markets across Africa and the Indian Ocean. The revised surcharge will take effect on 10 August 2026, with rates varying by destination and cargo origin.

Far East – Mozambique

For cargo shipped from the Far East to Maputo, Mozambique, CMA CGM will apply a PSS of USD 250 per TEU.

The surcharge applies to all cargo types and will take effect on 10 August 2026 until further notice. The applicable surcharge will be determined based on the cargo loading date.

Far East – Madagascar

For shipments to Tamatave, Madagascar, CMA CGM has introduced two different PSS levels depending on the cargo's origin.

●    Cargo originating from Far East countries other than China will be subject to a PSS of USD 250 per TEU.

●    Cargo originating from China will be subject to a PSS of USD 400 per TEU.

Both surcharge levels apply to all cargo types.

Far East – Somalia

For shipments to Mogadishu, Somalia, CMA CGM will introduce a PSS of USD 250 per TEU effective 10 August 2026.

The surcharge applies to both dry containers and reefer containers and will remain in effect until further notice.

Far East – Seychelles

Among the trade lanes covered by this announcement, the service to Port Victoria, Seychelles, will be subject to the highest PSS, set at USD 750 per TEU.

The surcharge applies to both dry and reefer containers and will take effect on 10 August 2026 until further notice.

For cargo originating from China, CMA CGM noted that the surcharge will only be applied after completing the required filing procedures with the Shanghai Shipping Exchange (SSE) and/or once it has been incorporated into the applicable ocean freight in accordance with current regulations.

Continuing PSS Adjustments in Response to Market Conditions

The simultaneous introduction of Peak Season Surcharges across multiple Far East trade lanes underscores CMA CGM's continued use of PSS as a tool to respond to rising shipping demand in selected markets.

The surcharge is intended to help balance network capacity, offset increasing operating costs, and maintain reliable service performance as the container shipping market enters the peak season.
