MSC Introduces Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for North Europe–North America Trade

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has announced the introduction of a Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo transported from Northern Europe - including the United Kingdom and the Scandinavia/Baltic (ScanBaltic) region—to the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas.

Effective from 15 August 2026

According to MSC, the new surcharge will take effect on 15 August 2026, based on the container gate-in date, and will remain in force until further notice.

The PSS will be applied as follows:

●    USD 600 per 20-foot dry container (20DV).

●    USD 1,000 per 40-foot dry container (40DV) and 40-foot High Cube container (40HC).

●    USD 1,200 per reefer container and all special equipment containers.

MSC noted that the implementation of the PSS will not affect any other freight rates or surcharges previously announced for the relevant trade lanes. All existing charges will remain unchanged in accordance with the carrier's current tariff notices.

For upcoming shipments or transportation plans, MSC recommends that customers contact their local MSC representative or the company's sales team for detailed information and shipment-specific guidance.
