COSCO SHIPPING Launches CHX3 Service to Strengthen Peru–Costa Rica Connectivity

COSCO SHIPPING Lines has officially introduced the Chancay Express Service 3 (CHX3), its first weekly container service offering a direct connection between the ports of Paita and Chancay in Peru and the Port of Caldera in Costa Rica.

The new service is expected to strengthen regional logistics connectivity while improving cargo transportation efficiency between Latin America and Asian markets.

Strengthening Paita's Role as an Export Gateway

As one of northern Peru's key container gateways and a major cold chain logistics hub, the Port of Paita serves the country's leading agricultural, seafood, mining, and textile production regions, including Piura, Lambayeque, and Cajamarca.

Under the CHX3 service, cargo originating from Paita will be transported to the Port of Chancay, where it will connect with COSCO SHIPPING's trans-Pacific shipping network bound for Asia.

According to COSCO SHIPPING, this operating model will help shorten transit times while reducing overall logistics costs, including inland transportation, warehousing, and container storage charges at ports.

Supporting the Cold Chain Supply Chain

The CHX3 service is expected to provide significant advantages for exporters of temperature-sensitive products such as avocados, grapes, and seafood.

By reducing transit times, the service will not only help preserve product quality upon arrival in destination markets but also improve the overall efficiency of the cold chain supply chain.

In addition, the weekly service strengthens the Port of Caldera's connectivity with the global shipping network. COSCO SHIPPING stated that CHX3 will enhance transit times, improve schedule reliability, and offer shippers more service options for cargo moving between Central America and Asia.

Reinforcing Chancay's Position as a Strategic Transshipment Hub

The launch of CHX3 further underscores the growing importance of the Port of Chancay within COSCO SHIPPING's Latin American network strategy.

As a key gateway linking trans-Pacific shipping routes, Chancay is steadily establishing itself as a strategic transshipment hub, strengthening connectivity between Latin America and Asian markets.
