CMA CGM Maintains Resilient Performance in Q1 2026 Amid Geopolitical and Global Supply Chain Disruptions

CMA CGM has released its latest financial results as the global shipping and logistics industry continues to face significant disruption from geopolitical conflicts, trade pressures, and ongoing supply chain instability.
Despite a sharp decline in profits compared to the previous year, the group maintained a resilient operational foundation thanks to its ability to adjust network operations and leverage its diversified logistics ecosystem.
During the first quarter of 2026, the Marseille-based group recorded revenue of USD 13.23 billion, broadly in line with the USD 13.26 billion reported in the same period last year. However, EBITDA declined to USD 2.1 billion, representing a year-on-year decrease of 31.6% compared to Q1 2025, while the EBITDA margin narrowed by 7.3 percentage points.
According to CMA CGM, the decline was primarily driven by its container shipping business as freight rates no longer remained at the elevated levels seen during the same period last year. In addition, overall market conditions during the first quarter of this year were significantly less favorable.
The group’s net income also fell sharply to USD 250 million, substantially lower than the USD 1.12 billion recorded in Q1 2025.
CMA CGM Adjusts Network Operations to Mitigate Supply Chain Disruptions
In the company’s official statement, Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and CEO of CMA CGM Group, stated: “In an uncertain geopolitical environment, the Group delivered resilient performance in the first quarter of 2026, supported by the strength of our shipping activities and the diversification of our business model. While tensions in the Middle East and disruptions across global supply chains continued to weigh on the industry, we proactively adjusted our network operations, implemented alternative logistics corridors, and maintained reliable services for our customers.”
According to CMA CGM, the group has deployed multiple multimodal transport solutions to minimize the impact of disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and maintain cargo flows to and from the Gulf region despite ongoing maritime restrictions in the area.
Continued Caution Amid Geopolitical and Trade Risks
Despite maintaining operational resilience, CMA CGM stated that the group remains cautious regarding the near-term market outlook.
According to the French carrier, ongoing conflict in the Middle East, oil price volatility, fluctuating freight rates, and broader global trade uncertainty continue to place significant pressure on the shipping industry.
These factors are affecting not only market supply-and-demand dynamics but also operating costs and overall business efficiency.
In addition, evolving trade policies and tariff measures across several major economies are continuing to reshape global trade flows.
Against this backdrop, CMA CGM stated that the group will maintain a high level of vigilance while leveraging the advantages of its diversified business strategy and flexible operating network to adapt to further market volatility.
