COSCO SHIPPING Lines Restarts SKX1 Shuttle Service Connecting Singapore and Kolkata

COSCO SHIPPING Lines has resumed operations of the specialized SKX1 shuttle service connecting Singapore and Kolkata (Calcutta), following the suspension of the service late last year. According to maritime data provider Alphaliner, the relaunch is viewed as part of the carrier’s broader strategy to reinforce its intra-Asia network presence.

Expanding Capacity and Improving Operational Flexibility

Under the new deployment plan, the SKX1 service will be operated using a vessel with a capacity of approximately 900 TEU, directly serving cargo demand between Singapore and Eastern India.

Alongside the restart of the standalone shuttle operation, COSCO SHIPPING Lines has also entered into a slot-sharing agreement on an existing service jointly operated by Bengal Tiger Lines and X-Press Feeders between the same port pair of Singapore and Kolkata.

Notably, both the independently operated vessel service and the allocated slot-sharing capacity will be marketed by COSCO SHIPPING under the unified SKX1 branding.

Strengthening Connectivity Between Eastern India and Southeast Asian Hubs

The relaunch of SKX1 is expected to enhance service frequency and provide greater capacity flexibility on the important trade corridor linking cargo markets in Eastern India with major transshipment hubs across Southeast Asia.

The move also reflects the broader trend of shipping lines continuing to optimize their intra-Asia networks in order to improve regional connectivity and respond more effectively to increasingly volatile transportation demand across the market.
