Ocean Alliance Adds Miami to PEX3 Asia – US East Coast Service

Ocean Alliance has announced plans to add the Port of Miami to its PEX3 service loop connecting Asia with the US East Coast, with deployment scheduled for late June this year.

This move is viewed as a strategic adjustment aimed at expanding direct connectivity between the Far East and the South Florida market—one of the United States' critical logistics and consumer hubs.

The PEX3 service is currently operated by Ocean Alliance members including CMA CGM, COSCO Shipping Lines / OOCL, and Evergreen Marine.

Miami Replaces New Orleans in the Port Rotation

According to the latest service configuration update, the Port of Miami will replace the Port of New Orleans in the current PEX3 rotation.

Notably, the entire fleet deployment for this service is directly operated by CMA CGM.

Under the revised configuration, the eastbound leg of the PEX3 service will follow the rotation: Singapore – Cai Mep/Vung Tau port cluster – Shekou – Ningbo – Shanghai – Busan – Houston – Mobile – Miami – Singapore.

The addition of Miami is expected to optimize access for Asian imports entering the Southeastern United States while improving flexibility within the inland distribution network.

Enhanced Connectivity for South Florida Shippers

Industry observers assess that incorporating Miami into the PEX3 network will expand shipping options for the cargo community importing and exporting through South Florida.

Given its strategic location, the Port of Miami serves as a vital gateway connecting the US market with Latin America and the Caribbean. Integrating it directly into Ocean Alliance's trans-Pacific service loop could help shorten transit times for several consumer goods, electronics, and retail segments.

This move also reflects the broader trend of ocean carrier alliances continuously fine-tuning their service loops to optimize operational networks and broaden their coverage in regions showing stable import demand growth.
