Container volumes decrease for four consecutive months at Japan's major ports
Container volumes at Japan's main ports has fallen for four consecutive months, with double-digit declines at some major ports.

Japan's container volumes continued to decline in July, with oceangoing containers to and from the country's six major ports falling 8.7% year-on-year to 1.13 million TEUs. This marked the fourth consecutive month of year-on-year declines.
Tokyo port saw the largest decline, with container volumes plunging 17.4% to 334,842 TEUs. Exports from Tokyo fell 18.5% to 152,807 TEUs, while imports fell 16.3% to 182,035 TEUs.
Kawasaki port also saw a double-digit decline, with container volumes down 17.7% to 7,442 TEUs. Exports from Kawasaki fell 21.6% to 3,450 TEUs, while imports fell 14% to 3,992 TEUs.
Yokohama port saw a smaller decline in container volumes, with throughput down 2.3% to 229,039 TEUs. Exports from Yokohama fell 4.9% to 119,191 TEUs, while imports rose 0.7% to 109,848 TEUs.
Nagoya port was the only one of the six Japanese ports to see an increase in container volumes, with throughput up 0.6% to 211,562 TEUs. Exports from Nagoya fell 0.1% to 108,380 TEUs, while imports rose 1.4% to 103,182 TEUs.
Container volumes at Osaka port fell 10.9% to 166,982 TEUs. Exports from Osaka fell 11.8% to 75,395 TEUs, while imports fell 10.2% to 91,587 TEUs.
Container volumes at Kobe port fell 6% to 177,743 TEUs. Exports from Kobe fell 7.8% to 92,627 TEUs, while imports fell 4% to 85,116 TEUs.
