Evergreen - Taiwan's shipping line - on September 8 said the order includes eleven 3,000TEU vessels, eleven 2,300TEU vessels and two 1,800TEU feeders.

Each vessel costs from $28 million to $51 million, and the total contract value is from $958 million to $1.1 billion.

The new build order was made under the name of Evergreen's established Singapore subsidiary Evergreen Marine (Asia) Pte Ltd.

The ships will comply with the new International Maritime Organization (IMO) emissions regulations, effective from 2023.

In the context of a very hot container shipping market, shipping lines and shipping suppliers have rushed to order more ships to avoid future increases in new shipbuilding prices, which have tripled compared to the last year.

Evergreen is no exception, having ordered 20 15,000TEU container ships from Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) in March and two 24,000TEU ships from Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding in June. It also has four 24,000TEU vessels on order. at Jiangnan Shipyard, expected to be completed in 2022.

Until the end of this year, Evergreen is expected to receive 3 24,000TEU container ships from SHI and 1 feeder ship from Hyundai Mipo Dockyard.

Evergreen is currently the seventh largest container shipping line in the world, with a total capacity of 1.39 million TEUs, including 116 owned and 87 chartered vessels.
