Profit of shipping lines reached 43.9 billion USD in Q1-2022

Shipping lines recorded very strong profits in the first quarter of 2022. The combined profit of global carriers was $43.9 billion in the first quarter of 2022 (including listed carriers and public carriers).
Overall, this Earnings Before Interest and Taxes (EBIT) is not only higher than the total Q1 EBIT of the past 12 years, but also higher than the EBIT of Q3 2021, an unprecedented growth.
The four carriers that recorded EBIT in Q1 2022 over $5 billion were: CMA CGM recorded the largest EBIT of $7.64 billion, followed by Maersk with an EBIT of $7.07 billion, COSCO with an EBIT of $6.26 billion and ONE Line with an EBIT of $5.23 billion.
