ZIM and 2M Alliance partners, including Maersk and MSC, will expand their existing operating cooperation agreement on Asia - US East Coast and Asia - US Gulf Coast, based on a comprehensive space exchange and ship sharing arrangement, subject to finalization of relevant documentation and regulatory approval.
In addition, the Israeli shipping line will launch ZIM Med Pacific (ZMP), a "pendulum" service on routes from Asia to the Mediterranean and Pacific Northwest (PNW), which will be independently operated by ZIM and, therefore, the current partnership with 2M partners on these routes will be terminated.
Furthermore, the space exchange agreement between ZIM and 2M on the Asia-Mediterranean and Pacific Northwest (Asia-Canada) services will come to an end. "ZIM will no longer be a partner on these networks and all the services will instead be operated by the 2M partners," MSC explained in a statement.
The new agreement is expected to be signed in early February 2022 and take effect on April 1, 2022, according to the statement.
“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with the 2M partners on the Asia to USEC and USGC trades and to launch a new, independent pendulum service to connect the Far East with the Mediterranean and the PNW,” said Eli Glickman, President & CEO of ZIM.
The new hybrid operation is expected to enable faster operations and provide fast and synchronous connections to ZIM's services in the Mediterranean, Asia and Pacific regions, aims to provide customers with variety and a level of service that best serves the needs of the customers, according to Glickman.
