The capacity of the FE3 service on THE Alliance's Far East, Asia to North Europe route is expected to increase as Hapag-Lloyd and Ocean Network Express (ONE) will receive four more 24,000 TEU ships in July and August. These four vessels will replace ships with capacities between 13,400 and 19,870 TEUs, according to Alphaliner.

THE Alliance's FE3 service on this Asia-North Europe route has been operated with a combination of 16,010 TEU vessels from HMM and Hapag-Lloyd vessels with a nominal capacity of 14,993 TEUs.

HMM's 23,964 TEU vessel HMM Le Havre, delivered in April, began upgrading in April, followed by a number of similar sized vessels.

FE3 will now have a 12-week turnaround with dozens of ships with capacity from 13,400 to 24,100 TEU, calling at ports including Ningbo, Xiamen, Kaohsiung, Yantian, Singapore, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Antwerp, Southampton, Algeciras, Singapore, Yantian, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, and back to Ningbo.

ONE's new flagship ONE Innovation, with a capacity of 24,136 TEUs, joined the fleet in early June in Ningbo and two more sister ships are expected to enter the service soon. The ONE Infinity ship will join on July 16, followed by the ONE Integrity ship on July 30.

Hapag-Lloyd's new 23,666 TEU LNG-powered flagship vessels will also soon join FE3, starting with the Manila Express on August 6. The lead ship of this series, the Berlin Express, was delivered on June 14, but it has not yet joined the Asia-Europe route. The vessel will first make a cruise on the Far East-Middle East route with the AG3 service and then join the FE3 service on August 20. Berlin Express is scheduled to debut in its home port of Hamburg, where it is scheduled to be named on German Reunification Day on October 3.

By then, half of the fleet of the FE3 service will consist of 24,000 TEU Megamax vessels, the largest generation of vessels currently in service. Smaller FE3 vessels to be replaced in the near future include the 13,371 TEU Rome Express and Hapag-Lloyd's first LNG-powered vessel, the 14,600 TEU Brussels Express.
