Asian container shipping lines, exploiting global or regional markets, have enjoyed huge profit increases when freight rates are high due to port congestion and supply chain disruptions.

Following the volume decline of many services on the Asia-North America West Coast route due to the pandemic, there has been a return of growth on the route. As of August 2020, only 39 shipping services are offered weekly, which has increased to 53 from August 2021.
